Wood Blocks

Social Commentary

Trained as an art therapist, these prints reflect years in which I worked with abused and neglected children, as well as my response to poverty and war which I observed in West Virginia and beyond. Using multiple carved blocks and working in series the pieces accentuate line, form and texture to tell a personalized story. Some of these pieces were done in collaboration with the African American poet and artist Elaine Blue who is now deceased. Concentrating on the woodblock as well as linoleum prints, most pieces involved many colors and plates, were labor intensive and so the editions were extremely small.
